Mr. Liu Feng, Chang Jiang Scholar of NPU is named as the member of AIAA

    Mr. Liu Feng, Chang Jiang Scholar and Chair Professor in NPU was accepted as the member of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics)recently and became the only Chinese scientist among the newly elected fellows of AIAA in 2013.


    Professor Liu, an outstanding alumnus of NPU graduating in 1981, has engaged in research on fluid mechanics, aero-elastics, rotating machinery, aero-engine and flow control for years. He has developed series of high speed algorithm and computer programs for computing external flow of airplane,aero-elastics, the spread of flame on the liquid fuel under the microgravity and internal flow in the engine, and put forward the new concepts: turbojet engine and turbofan engine, which makes use of continuous and separate turbine expander of combustion chamber respectively. He publicized his remarkable achievements by hundreds of papers in international academic journals and conferences. As one of the founder and leader of the fluid control team of NPU, Professor Liu, together with Professor Luo Shijun guided this team on their research with the latest resources.


    Being the most authoritative academic organization, AIAA is the world’s largest professional society devoted to the progress of engineering and science in aviation, space, and defense. AIAA’s mission is to advance the development in the global aerospace profession and to cultivate and encourage those people who strive for this career.


    Michael Griffin, president of AIAA attended the Academy ceremony and sent his congratulations to the new fellows: “Being named a Fellow of AIAA is among the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an aerospace professional, and represents recognition from colleagues and peers for significant and longstanding contributions to our community.”


    It is said some honorary fellows would be named annually for AIAA, and the first one in 1933 was Orville Wright, the younger one of Wright brothers who were the inventors of the modern aircraft.
